So it’s looking like developing a prototype in Javascript is the best way to go for now. Not only is Javascript the most fantastic and lightweight language to use, but it works across all platforms without any prior installation. An Android app could be produced simply with the WebCanvas element, while some routing around with iOS looks like there’s similar support, though Apple aren’t to keen on people using programming languages inside apps at present.

Perhaps the most exciting discovery is of OpenVG – https://github.com/luismreis/node-openvg-canvas – developing Code Kingdoms with nodejs would allow the game to take advantage of the Raspberry Pi‘s OpenVG hardware accelerated graphics library. Using nodejs also opens up the possibility to host multiplayer games easily: OpenShift is a free (but scalable) node host platform created by RedHat which I’ll try and use for server development…
